YACHTING

ITALICADESIGN: Excellence in Naval Interior Design

ITALICADESIGN redefines interior design for mega yachts with a bio-inspired approach, where organic forms and natural efficiency merge with Italian craftsmanship. Each space becomes a functional work of art, inspired by the principles of harmony and balance that govern ecosystems.

Thanks to the use of advanced technologies such as wrapping with high-performance materials, with the option to choose from 500 different types of wood, we optimise the restyling processes, reducing time and costs by 50% without compromising on quality or details.

Our manufacturing combines fine artificial or natural materials—selected woods, noble metals, and innovative fabrics—with high-tech solutions, creating environments that emulate the perfection of nature. The goal? To transform every yacht into a masterpiece of efficiency and elegance, where design and innovation sail at the same speed.

AUTOMOTIVE

ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE INSPIRED BY NATURE

For almost 30 years, we have collaborated with the leading names in the automotive industry - Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Fiat, Ducati, Aprilia, and Toyota - transforming biomechanics into automotive art. Each one-off project is born from observing the perfect harmony of nature: aerodynamic curves inspired by the flight of birds of prey, lightweight structures that replicate the principles of animal skeletons, and surfaces that mimic the skin of predators.

Our design merges technology and biomimicry, where composite materials behave like natural fibres and propulsion systems emulate the energy efficiency of ecosystems. For each client, we create bespoke solutions that combine extreme performance with organic elegance, with the same perfection that evolution has shaped over millions of years.

This philosophy has allowed us to earn the trust of the most demanding brands, bringing into our projects the very essence of natural engineering: adaptability, resilience, and a perfect balance between form and function. Our future? To continue growing, learning from the greatest designer of all time: nature.

Industrial Design and Technological Development Projects:

The Innovative Approach of Prof. Franco Lodato and Maurizio Pellegrino

The research and design activities of Prof. Franco Lodato and Maurizio Pellegrino span from industrial design to advanced engineering, with a focus on sustainable mobility, wearable tech, automotive, technical furnishings, and smart objects.

In the Mobility sector, they have developed solutions for electric micromobility with an ultra-lightweight alloy frame and energy recovery systems, integrating IoT for real-time data management. For wearable technologies, they have designed ergonomic devices with biometric sensors and piezoelectric materials, optimised for human-machine interaction (HMI) in medical and sports contexts. In Automotive, they have experimented with monocoque structures made from fibre-reinforced composites, gesture interfaces, and adaptive lighting systems, with a human-centred approach. In furnishings, they combine modular design with embedded technologies.

The technical objects include professional tools with brushless actuators, ergonomic grips in TPU, and wireless connectivity for Industry 4.0. The design methodology combines rapid prototyping (multi-material 3D printing), FEM simulations, and usability testing, with a focus on the circular economy. The goal: to combine aesthetics, functionality, and technological innovation, reducing environmental impact through eco-design choices and optimisation of production cycles.

COCA-COLA

FREESTYLE

Elegance and Innovation: The Coca-Cola Freestyle dispensers designed by Franco Lodato for Pininfarina combine refined Italian design aesthetics with cutting-edge technology, creating an iconic object for modern consumption.

Fluid Lines: Inspired by automotive design, they feature sleek curves and smooth surfaces reminiscent of supercar bodywork, with a focus on ergonomics and accessibility.

Futuristic Interface: Intuitive touchscreens are integrated into a minimalist design, with illuminated icons guiding users through beverage customization.

Pininfarina Signature: The front grille and chrome details reflect the company’s DNA, celebrating its legacy in industrial design.

Customization: Beyond functionality, the design enhances user experience with dynamic LED lights that react to selections, adding a playful element.

Sustainability: Despite their futuristic approach, materials are chosen for recyclability, aligning with Coca-Cola’s green policies.

Cultural Icon: These dispensers are not just machines but design pieces that transform a simple act into a memorable visual and tactile experience.

Franco Lodato has thus brought Pininfarina’s tradition into the F&B world, bridging art and function.

ITALICADESIGN: When Design Becomes Part of Everyday Life

For decades, ITALICADESIGN has been creating objects that transcend mere utility to become part of the collective imagination, becoming icons of form and function. Their designs do not just solve problems; they define the way we interact with objects every day, transforming them into silent companions of our existence.

Think of those intuitive shapes that your hands recognise at first touch, those perfect mechanisms that work effortlessly, those materials that age gracefully, acquiring character rather than wearing out. This is the hallmark of ITALICADESIGN: the art of blending aesthetics and ergonomics in objects that withstand the test of time, not only in homes but in memory.

From the reassuring lights of the appliances we check before sleeping, to the handles that seem moulded to our grip, to the devices that simplify everyday gestures without us even realising it. They are small silent revolutions, projects so well-executed that, over time, we stop noticing them – because they have now become part of us.

WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY: The Wearable Future

The industrial design applied to wearable technology is redefining the relationship between humans and technology, creating devices that are not only functional but also aesthetically integrated into daily life. From smartwatches to clothing with biomedical sensors, the focus is on ergonomics, innovative materials, and sustainability. Materials such as bioplastics and lightweight alloys ensure durability and minimalism, while flexible screens (like those of the Samsung Galaxy Ring) open up new forms.

The challenge is to balance invisible technology and user experience: AR glasses like Meta Ray-Ban or smart footwear with haptic feedback (e.g. Nike Adapt) demonstrate how interaction can be intuitive. Meanwhile, medical wearables, such as the ECG patches from BioIntelliSense, transform complex data into accessible designs.

With the advent of IoT, wearables will increasingly become cognitive and emotional prosthetics, featuring customisable designs and low environmental impact. The future? Technology that adapts to humans, not the other way around.

AESTHETICS AND TECHNOLOGY

Innovation and Style in Smartphone Design

Italica Design is an Italian excellence specialising in technological and functional design for smartphones. Its projects combine refined aesthetics and advanced usability, designed for discerning users and international brands.

Each device is crafted with premium materials such as aerospace aluminium, reinforced glass, and ceramic, ensuring durability and elegance. The lines are minimalist and ergonomic, with attention to details like rounded edges and fingerprint-resistant finishes.

Italica Design has collaborated with leading companies such as Motorola to create smartphones with high performance, integrating technology and design. The concepts range from ultra-slim models to modular devices, with a strong focus on sustainability (recycling of materials, eco-friendly packaging).

Italica Design's approach is human-centered: every curve and button is designed for an intuitive user experience. The result? Smartphones that are not just tools, but objects of desire.

FUNCTIONAL TECHNICAL DESIGN

Industrial Design and Functional Technical Design: Innovation between Form and Function

Industrial design and functional technical design represent the perfect balance between aesthetics, ergonomics, and engineering. These projects are not limited to mere beauty; they solve concrete problems, optimise processes, and enhance human-object interaction.

From modular furniture to smart appliances, functional design aims to simplify tasks. Every detail is crafted to maximise efficiency and comfort.

Industrial design, on the other hand, combines innovative materials and advanced technologies. An example? Electric cars with optimised aerodynamics or smartphones with durable yet lightweight casings. The challenge is to create scalable, sustainable products suitable for industrial production.

Today, with the advent of 3D printing, IoT, and artificial intelligence, designers have revolutionary tools to rapidly prototype and test solutions before launch. The result? Objects that are not only beautiful but also intelligent, durable, and environmentally friendly.
